Recently, I became aware of the true nature of Sony's Digital Rights Management Program distributed on Sony Audio CDs. I learned that when installed on a user's computer, the program contains a "Root Kit" that hides from the user's operating system and resists removal by antivirus tools. I further learned about concerns that the software "phones home" to inform Sony of the CD being played on the user's machine. I also learned that the software resists removal and there have even been reports of damaged operating systems and loss of CD functionality, and that there have been the report of viruses that exploit the root kit.
